When you adopt a dog from ABC, you help two dogs!
Not only do you help the dog joining your family, but also the newly rescued dog in it’s spot. The placement of our animals is a detailed process as we strive to ensure they are a good match with their prospective family. If you’re interested in adopting, please read our adoption process. Listed ages are approximate in most cases.
Attention: For safety concerns, homes with an unfenced pool OR dog door will NOT be considered for dogs under 15 lbs.

Adelaide, aka Addy, is a sweet and energetic girl! She would love to be included on all sorts of outdoor activities to help burn off some energy. She also excels at cuddling and loves her blankie and nylabones, but the big booms of lightening or fireworks scare her. She gets excited to greet you and loves to jump and give kisses so she may not be good around small kids. She does seem interested in other dogs, but would do fine in a home with or without another dog.

Sweet Amber has an irresistibly sweet face and a personality to match. She loves to play fetch and take breaks in the wading pool – we think she’s a swimmer! Amber may come across as a bit shy, but she just needs some time to show you how fun and friendly she is. She loves walks and is single-minded when she finds something good to sniff; she would benefit from some leash work. After being abandoned with mom Sandy and siblings Archie and Amelia. Amber is more than ready to find her forever family!

Annie arrived in the summer heat – hungry, dehydrated, and tick infested. She was extremely scared and had probably never known loving human hands. Annie has blossomed at ABC and is now such a friendly gal, just say her name and she will look at you with her sweet eyes and wag her tail! She is also very smart and eager to please. She greets everyone with a welcome wag and loves playing with her best friend Henry. These two love each other so much, that they have become inseparable, all this bonded duo is missing is their forever home.

Bella and Buddy are proof that two really is better than one! They are the perfect little bonded pair looking for a lap to cuddle on. They both love to play with toys, especially Bella. She has a blast carrying around toys that are bigger than she is! Bella can be a tiny bit shy meeting new people for the first time, but she quickly warms up and she loves to be held. She is also curious and loves to explore. Bella and Buddy were abandoned together at a construction site in Mesa. Bella had a huge hernia that required surgical repair, but now she is ready to find her forever home together with Buddy. They were featured in our 2019 Holiday mailer.

Bixby has the best mohawk in town! He loves walks, but could use a little fine tuning on his leash skills. The good news is, he’s super food motivated, which is great for training. He’ll also keep your yard “safe” from birds AND entertain you (and himself) by tossing a toy in the air and chasing it. When this wild-haired boy isn’t on duty he’s happy to just cuddle. Bixby has had to learn how to be friends with other dogs. He’ll tolerate living with another dog in his new home, but only if he’s able to be the boss!

Precious Bonnie was just a baby when she was found tied to a post at a condominium complex. After three days in the freezing rain with no food or shelter, a resident untied her and put her in their backyard. We knew we had to give her a fighting chance. Her severe diarrhea and vomiting required an emergency visit. Thankfully all the fluids along with an injection for the vomiting helped stabilize her. She has made a full recovery and her personality couldn’t be sweeter! She is friendly with dogs, loves to play, and is an absolute sweetheart. Overall, Bonnie is a great dog who is looking for an active family.

Brinkley was found wandering the streets in Mesa, extremely emaciated and dehydrated. He loves to run around the yard chasing after his ball and craves attention from all of his visitors. Brinkley is a gorgeous guy who would make a great running partner. He also loves to play and roll in the grass. Bruno is always ready for an adventure! This energetic, lovable guy is ALWAYS ready to play ball. He understands the true meaning of “fetch” and brings the ball back to be thrown over and over again. As with any energetic dog, small children might get knocked over on accident so a home with older kids would be more suitable. Buster might just be your next lap dog! He just wants to sit in your lap because “friendly”” seems to be his middle name. He loves to play with puppy enthusiasm, so he will need someone who will teach him some manners. We aren’t sure how this gentle giant found himself on the streets, but he was happy to have a warm bed to sleep in and good food to eat at ABC. He likes everyone and the staff and volunteers describe him as a sweet boy. If you are looking for a faithful friend with a lot of energy, then Buster may be your guy!

Chester is a gorgeous, carefree boy whose tail never stops wagging! He and his sister, Rosie, are a bonded pair looking for a home together. They get along great and love to play, play play – no matter if it’s fetch or tug of war! And true to their breed they both are fascinated by any type of water, the wading pool, straight out of the hose, it makes no difference. Chester knows how to sit on command, however, sometimes he can’t contain his excitement and jumps up to greet people. He’s a quick learner, but at this time we recommend a home without very small kids. Also, maybe you noticed he’s missing an ear flap? He’s mum on how it happened, but he hears just fine. If you would like the sweetest sibling duo ever, then Chester and Rosie might just be for you!

Sweet Claudia ended up at the County shelter (MCACC) after she was found wandering the Phoenix streets. An ABC volunteer asked if we could rescue her and now Claudia is safe and sound, waiting patiently for her forever home. She is super sweet with people, but not cat friendly. The only thing she needs now is a forever home including her very own toys! We expect her to be around 50 pounds at full size. Emily was abandoned in the yard of a vacant house. When she arrived at ABC she’d take treats from the staff and follow them around in the yard, but wouldn’t allow them to pet her. She feels so much better after surgery for an intestinal disorder. Now she loves attention, let’s the staff pet her, and even enjoys playing ball. She might even talk to you in her Scooby-Doo-like language! Her love can be bought with treats, and she’s coming out of her shell more and more every day.

Indigo would be equally happy with a family or a single – she’s pretty relaxed except when the leash comes out, did we mention she loves a walk?! Kai is a cute, medium-sized dog with an adorable curly tail. We aren’t sure how Kai found himself homeless, but he is so sweet and ready to find a family of his own. This very silly guy loves to play and gets along great with the other dogs at the shelter, especially Snoopy. Kai seems to be a little shy without another dog to give him moral support, so we think he would do best in a home with another dog friend. Kai will sit on command, but adds his own flare – he will sit, then jump into the air to catch a treat. Once he trains you to toss the treat, let the fun begin! This energetic guy is an overall great dog.

Lobo is a solid big boy who thinks he’s a lap dog! He likes to sit on your feet in order to soak up every ounce of love. He enjoys playing but loves attention more. She currently plays with Radar. Maggie is looking for a family with an active lifestyle.

Beautiful Panda is a sweet, big girl who thinks she’s a lapdog! She had been abandoned in the harsh Arizona heat and one of our ABC volunteers rescued her. Panda might have been a soccer star prior to ABC – she loves to roll her large ball around the yard with her head while running after it. She also enjoys going for walks, getting attention, sun bathing and cooling off in the wading pool. Panda would love to find a home with an active family. Sweet Peattie is, well, just that: sweet! He gets along well with his small dog playgroup, as long as none of the dogs are too bossy. He’s very active and loves playing in the wading pool and playing with any kind of toy. Peattie also loves attention and cuddling! He even doesn’t mind having his nails clipped as long as he’s getting a little treat. This dapper guy with the curly tail is ready to find a home that will adore him as much as he does them!

Phoebe may be pint-sized, but she’s full of love and super sweet! She’s also very energetic and good with other dogs. This adorable girl with the wide “racing stripe” down her back is sure to bring loads of fun to her family! She can often be seen sprinting around the yard with her small dog playgroup, including her pals Annie and Fox, playing in the wading pool or simply stretched out enjoying the sun. She was found roaming the streets without a collar or ID tag.

Radar was found roaming the streets with another dog, who has since been adopted. He is a lovable guy but is often overlooked because it takes him a little while to warm up to new people. He would love to find a family who will take the time to get to know him. He also seems to be more comfortable having another dog to pal around with. His current kennel mate and friend is Maggie. Once he gets to know you he’ll be (literally) eating out of your hand in no time – he’s a sucker for treats!

Rocket really lives up to his name – just throw the ball and he’ll chase after it at rocket speed! This adorable guy has lots of puppy energy and is always ready for an exuberant game of fetch. If Rocket had his way he’d play ball all day long! He would do best in an active family who will include him on long walks, jogs, hikes, and of course, playing ball! Due to his energy and size we do not recommend him around small children. However, Rocket loves people and has a personality that will win you over in a heartbeat!

Sweet Roscoe is an easy-going boy who loves to make new friends. He adores people and is also friendly with other dogs, especially his best pal and kennel mate Moby, who he is bonded to. Even when the other dogs are barking they are quite the relaxed pair –nothing seems to phase them! Roscoe arrived at MCACC (Maricopa County Animal Care & Control) with a broken leg, but thankfully it didn’t require surgery, only a splint. After 8 weeks of limited activity his splint came off. Sweet and gentle Roscoe is now ready to find a family to call his own. Roscoe was featured in our 2020 Holiday mailer!

Rosie is a typical Lab – devoted, loving, playful, smart – the list goes on! She is also bonded to her brother Chester, who is a chocolate lab and is (almost) as fabulous as she is. When they’re not cuddling together they’re playing fetch or tug of war! Rosie likes to follow the Staff and Volunteers around the yard so she can soak up all the loving pets and kisses. And true to their breed they both are fascinated by water, whether it’s in the wading pool or straight out of the hose, it makes no difference! Simone was rescued from the San Carlos Reservation with her EIGHT two-week-old puppies in late 2020. She was living on a chain and they all were exposed to FREEZING COLD temperatures! ABC responded to the urgent plea and rescued this precious family. Simone’s foster mom reported that she is a WONDERFUL dog: playful outdoors, relaxed indoors. Simone even kept her foster mom company while she worked from home. A staff member reports that she’s quite the princess and even loves to be carried like a baby! Thor is a lovable guy who has fur like velvet. If velvet hippos existed we imagine they’d be like him! Every person he meets is his best friend and he also loves playing with other dogs. He loves treats and is willing to do whatever it takes to earn a reward, although his leash skills need some fine tuning! Timmy is sweet and curious but tends to get a bit too excited when meeting new people. He is still learning not to jump so he may not be the best fit for a home with young children. Timmy likes to hang out and play with other dogs. He loves Nylabones and has even “borrowed” one from a dog who forgot to take it with them. Timmy is a stout “little” fellow (no “Tiny Tim” references please!) who is ready to devote his life to his forever family.

Tonka’s size may be intimidating, but he’s really just an 80 pound lap dog! He’s not interested in toys, fetch or tug, he just wants to be by your side to receive all the affection you’re willing to give. His ideal home is just him and his BFF! Tonka was rescued by the Goodyear Police department after he was left tied to a motel parking structure. He was sent to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control where ABC rescued him from the euthanasia list. Tonka is built like a truck! He will need a devoted and experienced adopter who can manage his size and strength. If you have room in your heart and home for only one four-legged sidekick, then Tonka may be for you!
