Animal Caregiver
The Animal Caregiver is a hands-on role ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact through animal welfare while gaining practical experience in animal care and shelter operations. On-site training is provided.
Part-time is approximately 10-25 hours, full-time is approximately 25-35 hours. Available to work morning and/or evening shifts. Some weekends and holidays will be required. Split shifts may be required. Local candidates within 20 miles of ZIP code 85032 preferred.
Core Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized shelter environment
- Perform daily animal care duties including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring health and behavior
- Administer medications and support medical treatment plans as directed
- Assist with animal handling, socialization, and enrichment programs
- Transport animals to and from veterinary appointments
- Accurately document animal care notes, medical observations, and daily logs
- Follow established animal care, safety, and sanitation protocols
- Communicate professionally with shelter staff and leadership
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate compassion and commitment to animal welfare
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
- Dependable, accountable, and team-oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding shelter environment
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs, including pet food, equipment, and animals
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Preferred: Prior experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, kennel, or rescue environment
Compensation:
- $15.15 per hour
