Nonprofit helping nonprofit with handmade pet beds!

Over the summer a group of Westminster Village residents, organized by Westminster Village employee & ABC Volunteer Krista R., worked hard to create pet beds. Last month the holidays came a little early for the wonderful animals at ABC. They were very excited about their new beds. A little Chihuahua name Hollywood even tucked himself into bed!

Hollywood loves his new bed!

All the cats and dogs here know that ABC is home for as long as it takes for the right adopter to come and swoop them up. ABC is grateful for the love from Westminster Village, Scottsdale’s premier, not-for-profit life care retirement community.

Noel Abandoned on a Cold Night

Noel now weighs almost 5 lbs!

UPDATE: Noel now weighs 5 pounds and looks more like a schnauzer every day. She may be small, but she makes up for it in personality!

Early in the morning of December 21st, Noel was being left in a tiny crate outside a Walmart entrance in 42 degree temperatures. An ABC volunteer intervened and asked what was going on. The owner stated they were leaving her there because they no longer wanted her.

Critical Care Corner: Noel
Little Noel receives treatment after being neglected and abandoned outside a Walmart.

She was lethargic and passing bloody stool. She was rushed to the hospital where she received fluids, antibiotics, and proper food. Barely six weeks old, her blood work showed she hadn’t been receiving proper nutrition for days and was seriously anemic. She weighs approximately 1 pound. She started to eat and drink on her own and is expected to make a full recovery.

It truly is a Christmas miracle that she survived, but she does have some challenges ahead. We need your help to raise $1200 to offset the cost of her hospitalization and treatment. Any size contribution will make a difference for Little Noel!

To make a donation online, simply click the blue DONATE button to the right (scroll down if you’re on a mobile device) or mail a check to Animals Benefit Club, 3111 E St John Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85032. Include “Noel” in your donation description. As always, your donation is tax-deductible. Funds donated beyond our estimate will go towards future Critical Care animals.

ABC rescues animals regardless of their medical condition. Many times an animal needs surgery or extended medical care before he or she is ready for adoption. Our Critical Care Corner will keep you updated on these special needs animals.

Cold Noses, Warm Wishes from all of us at ABC

ABC relies on the generous support of our community and partners! Our Holiday Mailer will be arriving in your mailbox very soon and we hope you’ll continue to send “warm wishes” to our animals in need!

Animals Benefit Club specializes in the most severe abandonment, neglect and abuse cases. Many of these Critical Care animals arrive severely ill or injured and require substantial funds to give them a chance at a normal life and a happy, forever home.

ABC also focuses on Street Rescue to help reduce pet overpopulation and alleviate the suffering of homeless cats and dogs. These animals are almost never altered and would otherwise continue to breed exponentially.

Hunter, a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix, was recently found staggering along the side of the road after being hit by a car. Despite losing his front leg, he’s adjusting very well (he is fast!) and is still a sweet, loving boy.

Roscoe arrived at MCACC with a broken leg. Once we saw his cute face we just had to help him! Thankfully his leg didn’t require surgery, only a splint. After 8 weeks of limited activity, including many on-leash trips in the yard, the splint is now off. He will remain on limited activity for a few more weeks. Roscoe has an easy-going personality, loves people, and is friendly with other dogs.

ABC rescued a German Shepherd from an abandoned scrap metal yard in mid-August. Her “home” was an asphalt lot surrounded by a chain link fence and absolutely no shade. Princess was scared and nervous when she first arrived at ABC, but quickly warmed up to the staff and loves to be in her cool kennel!

Biscuit was found abandoned in an apartment with his young mother, Ginger, and three siblings: Sneakers, Butters, and Maddie. They had been in foster, but are now at ABC until they find their forever homes.

Happy holidays and thank you for your continued support! Your donation allows ABC to provide food, medical care, and shelter to homeless animals who need us the most. Make a tax-deductible gift today!

Celebrate #GivingTuesday 2018!

#GivingTuesday is November 27

Celebrate #GivingTuesday!

There are two days for getting deals – Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday is a day to give back and kick off the season of giving. For nonprofits a majority of their annual donations occur in the last three months of the year, ABC is no exception. Our success depends on generous gifts from supporters just like you!

ABC invites you to celebrate #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 27. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support, which has allowed us to make a difference for homeless animals like Hunter, Biscuit, Roscoe, Zeke and Zoe. Now we need your help to make an even bigger difference. Thanks to a generous donor every donation made on #GivingTuesday will be matched up to $2,500!

$2,500 IN ONE DAY + $2,500 MATCH = $5,000!

$5,000 will allow us to provide medical treatment for a Critical Care animal or help offset food and shelter expenses for our rescue cats and dogs. ABC also has no paid administrative staff, which means 100% of your donation goes directly to the animals!

To make a donation online, simply click the blue “DONATE” button to the right (scroll down if you’re on a mobile device) or mail a check to Animals Benefit Club, 3111 E St John Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85032 and include “Giving Tuesday” in your donation description.

Boys Team Charity Service Day at ABC

This past weekend, a group of 14 senior high school boys, along with their parents, came to the shelter for a service day.

They are all members of Boys Team Charity (btc), a volunteer service organization dedicated to son/parent participation in charitable activities. ABC was selected as their Senior Project charity, after an recent adopter saw there was a lot of things they could do to help the facility. So far, they have spent two six-hour service days at the shelter.

We appreciate and thank each of the members of btc North Valley for their help trimming trees, fixing gates and fences, planting trees, cleaning fans, and much more! They will wrap up their project in January with repairs to the parking lot and clean up throughout the facility.

Learn how btc is making a difference at boysteamcharity.org or btcnorthvalley.chapterweb.net.

Hunter Hit by a Car

UPDATE: Unfortunately the impact from Hunter’s accident caused irreparable damage to his eye and it was unable to be saved. He’s adjusting very well despite being a one-eyed, three-legged dog. He loves to go for walks and play in the yard! He is not available to adopt at this time.

Hunter was found staggering along side the road after being hit by a car. He was taken to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) where a plea to help him went out to the local animal rescue network. ABC answered that plea and he was immediately taken for evaluation on his injuries. Despite our best efforts, his leg could not be saved and required amputation. He also has glaucoma in his right eye. Once again we are working with Dr. Reed and her team at Eyeshine Veterinary and we’re hopeful they can save his eye.

Hunter is a 3 year old German Shepherd mix. Despite everything this poor boy has been through, he’s the sweetest, most loving dog you’ll ever meet! We expect he’ll be ready to adopt before the end of November. Once he’s been cleared he’ll be listed on our website.

We need your help to raise $6,000 to offset the cost of Hunter’s surgery and medical care. Any size contribution can make a difference! To make a donation online, simply click the blue “DONATE” button to the right (scroll down if you’re on a mobile device) or mail a check to Animals Benefit Club, 3111 E St John Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85032 and include “Hunter” in your donation description. As always, your donation is tax-deductible. Funds donated beyond our estimate will go towards future Critical Care animals.

Nielsen Volunteer Day at ABC!

Nielsen Company Volunteer Day

Nielsen Volunteer Day at ABC!

Every year, Nielsen chooses a nonprofit to support for a day. Animals Benefit Club was nominated by one of their employees and we were entered into their pool of nonprofits. We were so excited to hear ABC won the final vote by a landslide!

In mid-June ABC hosted the group of Nielsen volunteers, which turned out to be one of our largest groups, 16 people! Our Animal Caregivers were thrilled to have so many helping hands available to tackle all sorts of tasks.

Here are just some of the projects they assisted with during their time at ABC:

  • Yard work, and A LOT of it: trimming trees, tackling weeds, and raking leaves
  • Cleaned up the front driveway
  • Scrubbed each and every dog Kuranda bed.  Each dog received a like-new bed back in their kennel!
  • Collected and cleaned all the Nylabones from the yards and kennels and re-distributed.  It was like everyone got a new bone!
  • Cleaned each and every floor fan
  • Folded and distributed all the laundry from the Activity Center to the other buildings.  It was a lot of laundry!
  • Cleaned counters, microwaves, stovetop

This amazing group went above and beyond to help out and we are very appreciative of their hard work. We’ve even had some people return to attend our Volunteer Orientation and continue as ABC Volunteers!

Thank you Nielsen for volunteering your time for the animals!

Thank you once again to the COMETS at Desert Springs Preparatory! This is their 4th consecutive year to host a coin drive and pizza sale to raise money for Animals Benefit Club. Mrs. Berg and her sixth grade leadership class presented ABC with a check for $1,261 and everyone got to meet Wesley, one of our adoptable dogs!
